Is it Possible to use FLAC Files on an iPod or Other MP3 Players?

FLAC is one of the many audio compression file formats existing today. It has an audio format that is similar to that of MP3 but is lossless. This means that audio that is compressed in FLAC format is compressed without any loss in quality so that the compressed file that you receive produces the same quality of sound that is found in the original file. As FLAC is designed especially for audio, it offers better compression of audio files.

However as FLAC is a form of free lossless audio format, it differs from MP3, MP4, WMA and other formats. It is because of this, and because compression rate here is lower that FLAC files may not work with your iPod or MP3 player. However it is possible to convert your FLAC file to River Past Crazi Video for iPod with the use of DC-Bass Decoder.

To launch Crazi Video for iPod, you have to first ensure that iTunes is working right on your computer. With the installation of Crazi Video for iPod, you have to launch Crazi Video. On clicking on the ‘add’ button of the tool bar, the file open dialog appears where you have to select ‘FLAC’ from its ‘Files of type’ combo box.

You then have to select the file to be converted while clicking ‘Open’. This adds the file to the conversion file list. If you find that you can’t add the file, ensure that you have the DC-Base Decoder installed in your computer as this is required for conversion from FLAC files. On selecting the file from the conversion list you find an additional panel, the ‘Convert File’ panel.

The toggle has to be clicked on to expand the panel where you change the name of the output file. The ‘Output Directory’ panel has to be expanded and then the ‘browse’ button used to select the output directory. With this done, you just have to click ‘Convert’ button on the tool bar, and your file is converted so that you can listen to your music on your iPod.

It is for similar reasons that you may not be able to listen to your FLAC files on your MP3 player. You will also have to convert your file from FLAC to MP3 using the River Past Audio Converter, with the installed DC-Bass Decoder. Moreover, depending on the file, you may also have to install Lame enc.dll to convert your file.

With the installation of the River Past Audio Converter, you have to launch it and basically, follow the same procedures as in the conversion of your FLAC files to make it suitable for play on iPods. However when using the setting panel found at the base of the window to control output format, you have to click on the toggle of the left to expand the panel.

You then select ‘MP3-MPEG Layer-3’ as the ‘Audio Type’ and change the sample rate, bitrate and select if the channel is stereo and mono. As the standard MPEG Layer-3 audio compressor has a limit of 24khz and 56kbps, you have to install Lame_enc.dl for higher bitrate and sample rate.

You then expand the ‘Output Directory’ panel and use the ‘Browse’ button for selecting an output directory, and then click ‘Convert’ on the tool bar for the conversion of the file. With this done, you will be able to listen to your FLAC files on your MP3 and enjoy your music.
