Audio Products That Work Best With FLAC File Format

There are numerous file formats that are today used in audio data comparison like wav, zip and FLAC. Of these file formats; the most popular and most used form of file format is FLAC. FLAC is basically the acronym for Free Lossless Audio Codec that is a lossless form of audio compression codec.

FLAC is a free file format that unlike other lossy codecs like Vorbis and AAC does not lose any information from the audio stream during the compression process. This means that the file that is used before compression will have the same data as the file that is available after compression. There is no loss of any data during compression, like in other audio data file formats.

FLAC is very much suitable for use in everyday payback as it is compatible with most of the software audio products available today. It can be used on household stereos, car stereos and even in portable and handheld audio devices like iRiver. Not only is FLAC used for playback listening pleasure, it is also used extensively in the archiving of audio collections.

By archiving audio collections in other formats to FLAC format, you have better listening pleasure with your audio products. Owners of CDs and other listening media use FLAC to help in preservation of their valuable audio collections. By using FLAC on their audio products to compress the audio data from other media, this file can be used in case the original medium gets lost, damaged or worn out over time.

FLAC can handle all PCM bit resolutions that range from 4 to 32 bits per sample and supports sampling rates from 1 Hz to 1,048,570 Hz in increments of 1 Hz. There are many platforms that compile the reference implementation of FLAC like UNIX, Windows, BeOS and OS/2 operating systems. With there being no loss in the data during audio data compression, FLAC produces compressed files that provide you with quality music in the high end audio products that work best with FLAC.

There are many audio products that are compatible with files compressed with FLAC like the slick networked audio system, Sonos. There are ZonePlayers connected to amplifiers and speakers here. Sonos can be used to access music over the network and is controlled by wireless remote with color LCD and clickwheel.

Squeezebox is another networked audio player from Slim Devices that provide both analog and digital outputs from FLAC files when connected to amplifiers or receivers. This is an audio product that has excellent support for FLAC, FLAC tags ReplayGain and external cue sheet support.

Slim Devices also has Transporter, the networked audio player that has excellent FLAC support with all standard FLAC encoding modes and tags provided support. There are various home stereos that support FLAC like Netgear EVA8000, Zensonic Z500, Sooloos and ReQuest. Other forms of home stereo that support FLAC are Linn Klimax DS networked digital music player, Roku Photobridge HD via plugin, Meda Systems' Bravo servers and iMuse audio/video media servers.

Some car stereos models that support FLAC are PhatBox and URAL ConceRt CDD while portable or handheld devices that support FLAC are i-Station mini DX, Meizu M6 Miniplayer and Cowon iAUDIO. Other portable and handheld devices that support FLAC are Zarva MV209, Hyndai NG-260, iPod via the Rockbox firmware replacement and Portable Media Player.

Other equipment like the Numark’s DJ equipment like HDX and CDX turntables with its integrated hard disk and HDMIX mixer all work best with FLAC. Even the sound Devices’ 7-Series recorders and the Pico CD/DVD Duplicator all work well with FLAC.
